Laser scanning technology can make scanning more flexible than using a CCD Scanner, including the ability to scan from varying distances.  Available in both hand held and fixed mount form, laser scanners are easy to use, read a wide variety of barcode densities and allow for easy reading of barcodes from irregular surfaces or even through glass or under plastic.
