'Wireless' Scanners do not need to be physically attached to a computer. Connection may be provided by a base station or a communications cradle that is wired to hardware. The scanner communicates via a radio transceiver built in to the scanner and the base station. Data is then transmitted to the hardware from the base station. Wireless scanners communicate to the base station or direct to the computer hardware using Wifi or buetooth technology wireless scanners can transmit live up to 100 meters. Suitable applications are retailing, transportation and distribution logistics, parcel and postal delivery, healthcare and manufacturing.
